Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady in Ambler

St. Joseph’s was founded on the influx of  immigrants of the time. Our history has made it only appropriate for the new immigrants of our time to be welcomed. In their settling they brought with them many traditions in particular that of the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Ambler’s strong precense of Mexican culture opened the eyes of our parish to the power of the patroness of the Americas. In 2005 Rev. Daniel Cavanaugh saw this devotion and ordered a icon of the Virgin be brought to St. Joseph’s and each year her feast day observed which is 12th of December.

About the Virgin

“Our Lady of Guadalupe” or “Virgin of Guadalupe” was the title given to the Blessed mother Mary, mother of Christ who appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 on Tepeyac Hill, Mexico.

After many visits to her. The virgin left her image on Juan Diego’s cloak as evidence to the Bishop and archbishop and a means for them to believe his sightings and her message of building a church in her honor at the site.

This image of Mary has become a symbol of culture and faith for Mexicans. There are many miracles linked to this apparition of the blessed mother that are still continuing today.

Growing Tradition

As time passed the tradition began to grow. From a few devotees to hundreds the church fills more and more each year with the faithful.

On December 12, 2010 Our Lady of Guadalupe in Ambler, Pa celebrated their 10th anniversary. The celebration was full of traditional music, food, dance, and even a firework display.

As part of the Centennial celebration of St. Joseph Parish a outdoor shrine was erected in Our Lady’s honor during the feast of the Assumption on August 15, 2019.
